ECOWAS Parliament urge member states to tackle causes of illegal migration  Ifeanyi Valentine  The Law making body of The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS Parliament, has called on states and governments of its member states to tackle the causes of illegal migration in the sub-region. This call was made at the end of a three-day Parliamentary Sensitisation Forum on Migration in West Africa, held at Niamey, Republic of Niger.   Member states was urges to tackle the causes through awareness raising, education and training, as well as through good governance in order to motivate the young people to remain in their home territories. The ECOWAS Parliament also encouraged member states to promote economic alternatives to the trafficking in the region and to develop the resilience of local populations by improving access to basic services and creating employment opportunities, particularly for the young people. Irregular Migration affects Niger's economy, security...  Ifeanyi Valentine The Republic of Niger, has decried migrants negative effect on its economy and the security of the country. The Director General, Department of Civil Registration, Migration and Refugees, Ministry of Interior, Republic of Niger, Malangoni Ibrahim, raised the alarm in Niamey during the ongoing three-day Parliamentary Sensitisation Forum on Migration in West Africa. Making a presentation on the National Legal Framework on Migration and the Management in Niger, Ibrahim who spoke through a former Permanent Secretary, National Committee on Migration in Niger, Soly Amadou, said migrants negative impact on the country was of utmost concern. IOM urges West African youths to have hope in Sub-Region  Ifeanyi Valentine  The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has urged West African youths not to lose hope in the region. The call by IOM is sequel to the numbers of irregular youth migrants from the sub-region who go through the Sahara desert and the Mediterranean sea to seek greener pasture in Europe. Speaking during an interactive session at the three-day Parliamentary Sensitisation Forum on Migration in West Africa held in Niamey, Republic of Niger, IOM Project Officer, Niger, Christina Atekmangoh, said from IOM's experience in the sub-region, migration seemed to be something really embedded in the socioeconomic life of West African young people. ECOWAS to truncate irregular migration through Private Sector  Ifeanyi Valentine  The Law making arm of The  Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS Parliament),  has disclosed that it will halt irregular migration in the West Africa sub-region through the strengthening of private sectors in member state. This is even as it called on leaders of the West African sub-region to play their roles in creating the best conditions for youths in order to halt the issue of irregular migration. Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Moustapha Cisse Lo, while speaking during the three-day Parliamentary Sensitisation Forum on Migration in West Africa in Niamey, Republic of Niger, said the issue of irregular migration is a very burning issue.
