[BREAKING] AfDB: Investigative panel declares Adesina innocent of all charges

An independent panel of experts, headed by former Irish president Mary Robinson, has cleared the beleaguered leader of the African Bank of Development (AfDB) of corruption, according to a report obtained by AFP. Akinwumi Adesina, 60, a charismatic speaker known for his elegant suits and bow ties, became the first Nigerian to helm the AfDB in 2015 — but a 15-page report earlier this year claimed that under his watch the bank had been tarred by poor governance, impunity, personal enrichment and favouritism.   The panel of three experts, led by Robinson alongside Gambia’s Chief Justice Hassan Jallow and the World Bank’s integrity vice president Leonard McCarthy, cleared Adesina of all charges alleged by whistleblowers.    “The Panel concurs with the Committee in its findings in respect of all the allegations against the President and finds that they were properly considered and dismissed by the Committee,” Monday’s report concluded.   The African banking institution and Adesina — who is t

The Federal Government has declared Thursday 30th and Friday 31st July 2020 as Public Holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir Celebration, the Islamic festival of sacrifice. Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola announced this in a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja and signed on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Georgina Ehuriah. ECOWAS Parliament swears-in eight new Members

Twelve new Parliamentarians across Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Senegal and Mali has been sworn into the ECOWAS Parliament seating for its Second Extraordinary Session, held virtually.   The newly sworn-in Members of Parliament are Hon. Califa Seidi (Guinea Bissau), Hon. Prince Yormie Johnson (Liberia), Hon. Woraye Sarr (Senegal), Hon. Ibrahim Yara (Mali), Hon. Amadou Diepkile (Mali), Hon. Mariam Kagnassy (Mali), Hon. Siaka Batouta Bagayoko (Mali) and Hon. Dieminatou Fomba (Mali), respectively.   Receiving the newly sworn-in MPs into the Parliament, Hon. Sidie Tunis, Speaker ECOWAS Parliament, admonished them to emulate the track records of the outgone members of whom they are replacing and also challenged them to defend and represent the people of the community, as well as the Community Parliament at all time.      

IGP orders arrest of police men accused of dehumanizing woman in Oyo state

The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba has confirmed the arrest of two police officers, Assistant Superintendent of Police Tijani Olatunji and Inspector Gboyega Oyeniyi, for harassing a lady in Ibadan, during the cause of their operation. According to DCP Frank Mba, in the statement, preliminary investigations by the force showed that the policemen who are attached to Area ‘A’ Command, Lion Building, Lagos, were on legitimate investigation, trailing the suspect, who was traced from Lagos to his house in Ibadan, where he was arrested.   Amnesty International (AI) had described the action of the Police Officers in the trending video as a violation of the young woman’s human rights, particularly her rights to dignity and called for Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to thoroughly investigate the case.   One of the policemen, identified only as Wyclef, filmed himself interrogating Towobola and the suspect. Mali Peace Mission: You have bigger crisis at home, CAN tells Buhari

VICE Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Northern Nigeria, Pastor John Hayab, has questioned the moral right of President Muhammadu Buhari to travel to Mali to mediate in the political crisis there, when his home country is in a bigger crisis.   Hayab said that the perennial killings, especially in Southern Kaduna and in the Middle Belt generally required the urgent intervention of the president.   Speaking to Arewa Voice against the backdrop of the recent killings in Kagoro, Southern Kaduna, Hayab who doubles as the Chairman, Kaduna State Chapter of CAN, said that Christians were mainly the target of the gunmen. A former member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Sulieman Dan Iyan Gora and two others have been detained by a Magistrate Court sitting in Kudape, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.     The Economic Community of West African States ( ECOWAS ),  is developing modalities to  harmonize academic degree s, curriculum  and certificate equivalence in West Africa   due to the growing internalization  of education and culture in the region .   This formed part of discussions at the Joint Committee meeting of the Committee on Education, Science and Culture and the Committee on Communication and ICT of the ECOWAS Parliament held virtually. COVID-19: WAHO TASK ECOWAS LAWMAKERS ON DOMESTIC HEALTH FINANCING

The West African Health Organization (WAHO) has called on ECOWAS Parliamentarians to champion the inclusion of Domestic Health Financing Fund in the budget of Member States which will serve as support in the fight against COVID-19 Pandemic across Region. President of the ECOWAS Co urt of Justice , Edward Asante , has expressed deep concerns  over non- referrals from the Courts of Member States. Pastor of the Household of God Church International Ministries in the Oregun area of Lagos State, Reverend Chris Okotie, says online church service, which has become the order of the day due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is unscriptural.
