JOSF, ZFTF Commemorates International Day of Older Persons; seeks inclusion for elderly.
The Just Older Support Foundation (JOSF) in collaboration with Zoe’s Flower The Foundation (ZFTF) has called for a greater inclusion of the elderly in the society.
This was made as the both Foundation commemorates the international Day of Older Persons, focusing on promoting the rights and inclusion for the Elderly, held at the Glory Hall, Kingdom Centre, Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Olateju Olubanke, President of JOSF, said that it is very important for every individuals to respect the elders as they have achieved everything they enjoy currently without much comfort, and still remained amazing.
“Elders have a lot to share with you, their life experiences, their first job, their first love, their mistakes, their discoveries, their success and much more, which if taken into consideration will help our society as well as individual growth” Olateju said.
She added that, “Elders have lived up things that we could hardly imagined, they have achieve everything without much comfort, still they are intelligent and strong human beings who have experienced various hardships in life in the real sense, hence, we cannot but work hard and ensure that they are included into the society, well taken care of and well respected”.
Similarly, the convener of Zoe’s Flower The Foundation, Mrs. Uchenna Duru-Nwaotule, emphasized on the mentorship role of the elderly in the society.
She said Elders having reached a certain age in their life often have a strong need to create a lasting legacy which can take shape in serving as mentors, role models, teachers, and family historians to the younger generation.
She encouraged the elderly to keep up and continuously embrace mentoring spirit, adding that intergenerational mentoring is a process through which older adults pass on to younger people a legacy of life lessons, and hopefully, wisdom, they make young people more of themselves and helps them develop the ability to make difficult life choices, as a result of which their role cannot be underestimated in the society.
The event featured health/Nutritional tips, free medical checks, mentoring and award presentations.
