As Roman Catholic Church all over the world celebrates the triumphant entry of Christ which marks the beginning of the Holy week activities in preparation for Easter, Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, Bishop of Abuja Archdiocese has called on Catholic faithful and everyone in general to respect human life as well as the needy in this trying period.

Archbishop Kaigama while delivering his homily at the Private Mass celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro Cathedral Abuja, said he had looked forward to a full congregation as the Church commemorate the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, when palm branches were placed in His path.

He said, “Today being my first Homily and also my first celebration of palm Sunday as the Archbishop of Abuja, I had looked forward to a full congregation which the Catholic is known for;
“But today I see empty pews, holding to the stay at home instruction that Parishioners are adhering to in the fight against Corona Virus, and as we also as a church try to keep to the suspension of social gathering and worship;

“While we believe and continue to pray that the virus is defeated, I call on everyone to show respect for humanity, everyone should care for each other, as we struggle to achieve this common good, the law enforcement agent should avoid the use of force on citizens” he added.

Continuing, Archbishop Kaigama pledged that the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja will ensure that the poor is being assisted, he called on the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) as well as the St. Vincent De Paul society of the Abuja Diocese to ensure that the care for the needy and vulnerable is being carried out across Abuja.

He added that the ongoing construction of a Cathedral for the Archdiocese will be suspended as all funds given to him will be channeled to care of the poor and vulnerable in this period of COVID-19.

“This period is the time when there should be no barrier, no discrimination, no feeling of alien Nation. we are all One People, One Nation, One Humanity, let us reach out to everyone with the message of hope, not the message of war, but the message of Peace, Joy and Love” Kaigama concluded.
