President calls for commitment towards peace and security in sub-region
The President of the Republic of Togo H. E. Faure Gnassingbe has stressed on the need for a common commitment towards working together in achieving peace and Security in the West African sub-region. According to him there are a number of challenges affecting the sub-region, hence encouraging cooperation to drive acceptable solutions for West Africa. He made this remarks on Thursday, October 6, 2022 following a courtesy visit of the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament Rt. Hon Dr Sidie Mohamed Tunis in Lome where the second Extraordinary Session of the parliament is being hosted.
During their meeting, the Honorable Speaker took note of the good relations between the ECOWAS Parliament and the Republic of Togo, and the prospects for their further consolidation. Dr. Tunis then lauded His Excellency Gnassingbe for the important role he is playing to promote peace, security and development in West Africa and his integral initiatives that are geared towards the restoration of stability in Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso. It was a great honor to meet with the President of the Republic of Togo,” Speaker Tunis said. He expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Togo for hosting the ECOWAS Parliament and for the enormous support received.

Nigerian senator dies in UK A senator representing Cross River North, Rose Oko, is dead. The 63-year-old senator died on Monday night at a United Kingdom (UK) medical facility where she had been receiving treatment in the last one month. Oko was a member of the House of Representatives representing Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency during the 7th National Assembly. Senator Oko was elected into office as the first female representative from her constituency in June 2011, and is currently in her second-term member of the upper chamber and served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment. ECOWAS Parliament bemoan low remittance of Community Levy The Legislative arm of the Economic Community Of West African State (ECOWAS Parliament) has lamented low remittance of Community Levy by member states. Speaker of The ECOWAS Parliament, Rt Hon Sidie Mohammed Tunis said the levy is meant to mobilize the funds required for the accomplishment of the missions of the parliament and other ECOWAS Institutions. He explained that the 0.5% levy, imposed on goods from non-ECOWAS Member States, is intended to cater for around 80% of the Community’s budget revenue.
